Case description

The main goal of the heart valve repair is to restore the proper function of the valve. If the surgery is done properly it allows the surgeon to avoid using of an artificial valve and complications associated with it. Traditionally valve repair is a open-heart procedure necessitating the usage of cardiopulmonary bypass and consists of several different procedures which allow the surgeon to separate leaflets, repair leaflets that are torn and reshape the parts of the valve, depending on the particular valve problem. Mitral and tricuspid valves are so called atrioventricular valves, providing one-way blood flow. Diseases of these valves can lead to multiple severe comlications as heart failure, atrial fibrilation and pulmonary hypertension.

The video, presented above details the case of a 83 year old patient with progressing fatigue and shortness of breath over the last 6 months. The patient was diagnosed with both mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. The following surgical video will help you understand what can be routinely done to restore the heart valve function and eliminate any leakage.

The narration is carried out with a descriptive style that fits all professional or lay audiences
