Case description

The mainstay of treatment of the severe heart valve diseases are surgical repair and replacement of valves. Typically they are complex and demanding procedures, performed on an opened heart. Nevertheless the minimally invasive techniques, using robots and endoscopes. The human heart beats approximately 72 times per minute and pumps about 7,000 litres of blood a day. Therefore, all heart valve surgeries demand a great precision to ensure tightness and prevent a blood leaks through the valve.. Hovewer, not every operation is so succesfull and some patients need to be reoperated.

The video shown above presents a case of a 57 year old male patient, who was admitted to the hospital with the symptoms of shortness of breath and fatigue. A year before, patient underwent surgery of mitral valve repair and CABG. The echocardiographic examination showed severe mitral regurgitation, associated to partial detachement of the original annuloplasty band. Following video details an operative technique for redo mitral valve repair.
