Case description

Mitral valve repair is a surgical procedure of treating mitral valve stenosis or regurgitation. The techniques of this procedure include annuloplasty (insertion of a cloth-covered ring around the valve to bring the leaflets into contact with each other), removal of loose parts of leaflets or re-suspension of the leaflets with artificial chords. The following video detalis a case of a 76 year old male with severe mitral regurgitation, secondary to the annular dilation caused by the heart enlargement. The narration is aimed to show you exactly what we do to restore a normal valve function by inserting an annuloplasty band and reducing the diameter of a stretched out valve. Video by Giovanni B. Ciuffo, MD.
