Case description

The introduction of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) in the early 1980s revolutionized the treatment of patients with stones in the kidneys & ureter. Shantiraj Hospital introduced this modality at Mandsaur in 1998. ESWL is a non-invasive procedure that breaks down stones in parts of the urinary system. It uses shock waves that are aimed at stones, with the help of X-rays or ultrasound. Stones in the kidneys and ureter often pass on their own after EWSL. Large fragmented calculi mass may require DJ stenting.
