Case description

ENT case report: 43 yo female patient with a history of 2 years of progressive hearing loss. No previous history of chronic ear disease nor any other middle ear condition for that matter. Normal otoendoscopy. Audiogram reveals a conductive hearing loss (mean audiogram measured at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz). AC (air conduction) 54 dB, BC (bone conduction) 24 dB, air-bone gap of 30 dB. Preoperative CT scan was normal (done to discard another middle ear disease). The patient was scheduled for surgery for endoscopic stapes surgery of her left ear. The surgery lasted for 55 minutes and no postoperative complications were reported. Postoperative hearing results were: AC 29 dB; BC 21 dB; an air-bone gap of 8 dB.
