Case description

An important step prior to diagnostic or therapeutic intervention of a laryngeal lesion is an examination under the anaesthesia (EUA). The advancement in high power microscopy and endoscopic technology help because allow its detail anatomy to be visually analysed.
A general appearance, site and extent of involvement, pedicle attachment (sessile of pedunculated), vessel feeder (if obvious), and presence of opposite vocal fold reaction (usually mild thickening) are the assessments of a vocal cord polyp. Usually additional palpation by using microsurgical probing instrument is performed to find out thickened or scarred areas.
In this video we can see a benign (non-cancerous) double-headed right vocal fold polyp with a relatively sessile base. When the polyp was lifted upward, it was good to see thickened epithelium surrounding its base.
To assess the vocal fold polyp in this patient vocal fold spreader and triangular forceps were used.
