Case description

This is the right middle meatus of a patient who continued to suffer from recurrent episodes of sinusitis despite a previous inferior meatal antrostomy and a partial resection of the inferior turbinate. Photographed at the time of an acute episode: polyps, granulation tissue and pus can be seen in the middle meatus. Note how the pus moves posteriorly directly over the ostium of the eustachian tube. Courtesy of Professor Heinz Stammberger, University of Graz, Austria.
