Case description

When medical therapy is unable to cure a sinus infection, then a functional endoscopic sinus surgical approach using the Messerklinger technique may be required. Despite eight weeks of a suitable broad-spectrum antibiotic, chosen on the basis of culture and sensitivity studies, this patient still has a chronic right maxillary sinus mucopyocele. Note the edematous medially bent uncinate process. This patient was successfully treated by means of an endoscopic procedure to open up the osteomeatal complex.
