Case description

Exostoses of the bony ear canal are the result of localized areas of benign bony hypertrophy, which are thought to result from stimulation of the periosteum covering the medial surface of the tympanic bone by cold temperatures e.g. swimming in cold water. Exostoses are usually multiple. Note the solitary white exostosis in the 12 o'clock position of this right ear canal.
