Scapular Winging
Case description
There are two main types of scapular winging - medial and lateral. Lateral winging occurs due to injury of spinal accessory nerve leading to dysfunction of trapezius muscle. It is more visible during shoulder abduction. Medial winging occurs due to injury of the long thoracic nerve leading to dysfunction of the serratus anterior muscle. It is more visible while flexing the shoulder.
