Case description

Surgical – site infections (SSIs) are well-known complications of gynecologic and obstetric surgeries. Despite not being very common, they can significantly increase the cost of hospitalization and lead to further serious complications as well as poor clinical outcome. SSIs are a result of multiple risk factors, both modifiable and unmodifiable, but a thorough analysis of these factors can help prevent infections. This review focuses on definition, pathophysiology, epidemiology and prevention of SSIs.
