Case description

GISTs surgical resections can be performed either laparoscopically or as open conventional procedures. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) typically arise in the stomach. Treatment, dependent on size and symptoms, primarily involves surgical resection. Neoadjuvant imatinib may be considered to facilitate complete resection, especially in challenging cases. Tumor location influences surgical approach; cardia, gastroesophageal junction, and antral tumors require anatomical resections. Lymphadenectomy does not appear to affect outcomes.
