Case description

Heller myotomy and dor fundoplication for achalasia in obese patients is safe and effective. Obesity rates are rising dramatically worldwide. As such we are likely to be dealing with many more patients who develop both conditions. This may be simultaneously or sequentially. Patients can develop achalasia if they are obese, and they can develop obesity if they have achalasia. Studies suggest that esophageal dysmotility may be more prevalent in an obese population.
