Case description

Surgical video case: on doing thyroidectomy injury to the external laryngeal nerve can be avoided by dividing the superior thyroid vessels close to the upper pole. It is not essential to visualize the external laryngeal nerve but here the nerve is clearly visualized after the division of the superior thyroid vessels as you see the nerve running on the cricothyroid muscle which is supplied by it.
