Case description

Background: The main advantages of Nissen fundoplication using LESS approach are: smaller number of ports, little scarring, faster recovery and minimal pain after the procedure. Methods: Through a single 12 mm incision in the umbilical region, 4 trocars were inserted as well as 3 mm camera. Once hiatal hernia excised, distal esophagus was removed with sparing of the both vagus nerves. Fundoplication procedure was done and the gastric fundus was fixed to the right crus of the diaphragm. At the end of the intervention, the wound closure was performed with the absorbable stitch. Conclusion: LESS can be used for GERD treatment with a Nissen fundoplication. Main advantages are better cosmetic effect and smaller rate of morbidity. Laparoendoscopic Single Site Surgery techniques can be used to perform Nissen fundoplication in order to control GERD, without apparent scarring, and less morbidity. Surgeons will need to fulfill demands of the patients regarding this type of procedure. Authors: Sharona B. Ross, MD, Kenneth Luberice, BS, Connor A. Morton, BS, Linda K. Barry, MD, Alexander S.
