The LASER randomized clinical trial compared laparoscopic elective sigmoid resection with conservative treatment (dietary modification, fiber supplements) in 90 patients with recurrent, complicated, or persistent painful diverticulitis over a 4-year follow-up. Outcomes assessed included the Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index (GIQLI) scores, 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) scores, recurrence rates, complications (graded by Clavien-Dindo classification), and patient satisfaction at 48 months.
