Case description

The surgical repair of Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (PAPVC) involves correcting the abnormal connection of one or more pulmonary veins to the right atrium instead of the left atrium. Surgeons typically perform an open-heart procedure, during which the patient is placed on cardiopulmonary bypass. The surgeon then identifies the anomalous venous connection and redirects the pulmonary veins to the left atrium. This is achieved by creating an atrial septal defect or by directly connecting the veins to the left atrium. Careful attention is given to ensure the proper drainage of blood and the absence of residual connections. The procedure aims to restore normal blood flow, preventing potential complications such as right heart overload. Postoperatively, patients undergo close monitoring to ensure optimal recovery and long-term cardiac function.
