Case description

Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is a surgery which purpose is to restore the normal blood supply to the heart, by bypassing the obstructed artery. It is performed to relieve angina, when normal anti-ischaemic treatment is no longer sufficient and also to prevent or relieve left ventricular dysfunction, reducing the risk of sudden death. Typically the surgery is performed with the heart stopped, necessitating the usage of cardiopulmonary bypass, nevertheless, the so called off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) technique, which takes place without stopping the heart is still in development.

The video presented above details step by step the technique of coronary artery bypass surgery.
