After completion of this video session, it is expected that you will be able to:

• Explain how the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system and somatic nervous system differ in anatomy and function.
• Describe the anatomical origin and pathways of the pre- and postganglionic sympathetic fibers.
• Define visceral sensation and illustrate some models of visceral pain referral particularly cardiac referred pain.
• Illustrate some examples of the function of the sympathetic nervous system: pupillary size, effect on the heart and lungs, effect on GIT.
