Case description

There is an increasing number of Treponema pallidum infections in recent years. Hypothetically, There is also higher risk of syphilis transmission from organ donor to organ recipient. Despite a few isolated cases of asymptomatic Treponema pallidum transmissions, the evidence of donor syphilis infections is not considered as a contraindication for organ retrieval and transplantation. That cases showed that Treponema pallidum infections disappeared after recipient’s administration of antibiotic prophylaxis. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the available cases of the donor-recipient syphilis transmission and to propose the scheme to deal with positive serological reactions in a potential organ donor.
