Breastfeeding up to the sixth month of a child’s life is a “gold standard” recommended by the World Health Organisation. According to the Polish Central Statistical Office, in 2014 more than 90% of women breastfed during the first days after delivery, but only 46% continued it beyond the sixth week postpartum. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge of Polish women about breastfeeding. A prospective cross-sectional study was performed among Polish women who were breastfeeding at the time. The self-composed questionnaire consisting of 23 questions regarding demographic characteristics and knowledge about lactation was distributed via Internet in 2017.
