Vasectomy
Vasectomy
Vasectomy is a procedure of ligation or cutting the vas deferens to prevent the transport of sperm to the penis. It is performed in order to control fertility (as a form of contraception). The Pearl Index for this method is 0.15 (with perfect use 0.1), making it the most effective method of contraception available in Poland. Is worth knowing that the procedure is not prohibited in Polish law (often misinterpreted). It is suggested that vasectomy may be associated with an increased incidence of prostate cancer, but the reports were not confirmed in clinical trials. After surgery, patients did not complain of any changes to the deterioration of the quality of sexual life. The composition of the ejaculate is depleted by only sperm, so it is not noticeable. The operation is performed as an irreversible, in some cases (30%) can be made to restore patency of the vas deferens and reacquiring fertility.
Traditional surgery - the doctor makes sense and identification of the vas deferens, then cuts the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and have access to vas deferens. The culmination of the procedure is to establish two ligatures and cut the vas deferens.
Modifications of the method
a) without using a scalpel vasectomy - the doctor uses a sharp hemostat to perform the incision of the scrotum, the resulting wound does not require sutures, and the number of complications is less than the classical procedure.
b) open-end vasectomy - there shall be no closure of the cut end of the vas deferens, the sperm gets into the scrotum. Research suggests that this modification can produce a smaller number of complications such as pain syndrome after vasectomy.
c) anesthesia without needles - special kits for the anesthesia, the aim is to overcome the fear of patients from needle-stick injury. There is no impact on the operation itself.
d) translating of the fascia - to prevent recanalization of the vas deferens (the failure of the operation).
e) irrigation of the vas deferens - is made of injection of sterile water to the distal end of the vas deferens during surgery, it brings almost certain to obtain azoospermy. It has no effect on the course of treatment.
Complications
Are relatively minor and relate to the classic complications of surgical intervention, such as swelling, pain, inflammation of the epididymis or testis, epididymis, and tenderness around the testis. Inflammation rapidly cured. Quite often there is a so-called vasitis nodosa - noticeable bulge around the vas deferens, which carries no any negative aspects.
Rare complications of the syndrome of pain after vasectomy, which consists of pain during ejaculation, testicular pain, pain during erection.
