Case description

The gingival tissues are very prone to develop exuberant inflammatory overgrowths [Epulides]. These overgrowths are often found to contain immature, vascular granulation tissue. The type of epulis is named according to a combination of its histological and etiological factors. In this patient, an infective etiology is proposed and the lesion is termed a "pyogenic granuloma". The smooth pink swelling with the central area of protruding granulation tissue is the pyogenic granuloma.
