Case description

This right skeletal specimen clearly shows the uncinate process. The infundibulum is the air-containing space that is bounded by the uncinate process medially, the lamina papyracea laterally and the ethmoidal bulla posteriorly. The dimensions of the infundibulum, particularly with respect to the approximation of the mucosal surfaces, are dictated by the size and configuration of the ethmoidal bulla, the middle turbinate, and the uncinate process. The hiatus semilunaris is a two-dimensional, defining the extreme medial opening of the infundibulum.
