Case description

Subperichondrial bleeding following trauma to the nose make produce a collection of blood between the perichondrium and the underlying cartilage of the nasal septum. The nose is characteristically blocked and tender to palpation, especially when the tip of the nose is elevated. Prompt surgical drainage is required, because if the hematoma persists or becomes infected, the underlying septal cartilaginous will become necrotic and the support provided by the anterior septal cartilage to the tip of the nose will be lost.
