Case description

There are usually defects in the bony lateral wall of the nose located between the uncinate process and the inferior turbinate that in life are covered with a dense connective tissue that is a continuation of the periosteum. These defects in the bony skeleton of the medial wall of the maxillary sinus are the anterior and posterior fontanelles. Note how clearly the uncinate process can be seen in this skeletal preparation.
