Case description

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common cutaneous malignancy. These tumors usually develop in skin that is been subjected to actinic damage, and it is therefore not surprising that basal cell carcinoma are the most common malignant tumors affecting the external ear. This area of "chronic dermatitis" affecting the conchal bowl did not respond to appropriate topical antibiotic and antifungal preparations, and was diagnosed on biopsy is a basal cell carcinoma.
