Case description

Over time, the pustules rupture, dry out and become crusted. When herpes zoster involves the sensory portion of the geniculate ganglion of the facial nerve, it may produce a lower motor neuron facial paralysis and associated herpetic eruption over the affected dermatomes. This is called the Ramsay Hunt Syndrome [Herpes Zoster Oticus].
