Case description

The epithelial layer of the tympanic membrane and the external canal skin has an amazing self cleansing property which is referred to as epithelial migration. This patient had a dot of India ink applied to the center of her right tympanic membrane. Six weeks later the ink dot is broken in half and the outer rim of the ink dot has migrated centrifugally towards the periphery of the eardrum.
