Case description

This is the aspirate obtained from a patient with a persistent mucoid middle ear effusion causing conductive hearing loss. Following a myringotomy, the aspirate was collected and placed on this slide. This is the typical appearance of the middle ear effusion in patients with mucoid otitis media. It is whitish, opalescent, and of a thick consistency.
