Case description

Otitic barotrauma is a term applied to the damage that results from a failure of the eustachian tube equalize the air pressure on either side of the tympanic membrane. Barotrauma occurs most commonly during descent from high-altitude in aircraft or during descent in underwater diving. One of the commonest otoscopic signs of barotrauma is the presence of blood in the middle ear as seen here.
