Case description

In rare cases of keratosis obturans the continuing accumulation of keratin squames enlarges the plug in the external auditory canal and exerts pressure on the surrounding bone which over time may become resorbed as seen in this case. Note how the inferior portion of the tympanic bone has become severely resorbed. The annulus of the tympanic membrane appears to be "floating".
