Case description

This photograph shows the typical appearance of the aspirate from a case of mucoid otitis media. This was obtained from a young child prior to the insertion of a ventilation tube to treat a chronic conductive hearing loss caused by the middle ear effusion. Note the opalescent nature and the thick gooey mucoid consistency of the aspirate.
