Ovarian Torsion Management

This video descibes the mismanagement of a 15 year old girl with severe ovarian torsion which may have contributed to the loss of her ovary. Ovarian torsion may be misdiagnnosed and confused with other disease processes. Rapid action is needed and ultrasound with doppler flow is essential. This patient had a CT scan and never had an Ultrasound. The gynecologist on-call was never called.
This video shows excellent tissue management and surgical techniques in order to prevent further injury and to prevent laparotomy. This patient must safeguard her remaining ovary and is keen to the signs and symptoms to be aware of.
If you are a women with acute severe pelvic pain, then an ultrasound with doppler is almost always indicated especially when an emergency room visit occurs. If there is any doubt as to the integrity of the ovary then a gynecologist should be consulted.
As a patient you have a right to ask, "So doctor how was the blood flow to my ovary?"
