Case description

Background: Uterine prolapse is a serious disorder that affects life quality. Minimally invasive management is considered to be a good option of treatment. Materials and Methods: In our hospital in last 3 years 15 patients were admitted, in age between 68 and 78 (median 70 years). All of them underwent minimally invasive uterus excision and colpopexy with a polypropylene strip. Previous uterus excision was applied in three patients and they suffered from vaginal prolapse. Three trocars with a 30° optic angle were used during the intervention. Results: All interventions were made with a minimally invasive method, without any conversion to an open surgery. One postsurgical complication took place-adhesions of the polypropylene strip to the right ureter. It was corrected by ureter restriction. Patient were discharged in 2 days (average). On the follow-up examination all patient were in a good state. Conclusion: The following qualities are acting in favour of the laparoscopic method: fast recovery, good postoperative state and little time in a hospital before the discharge. In case of stress incontinence patients are adviced a prolonged follow-up period. Authors: Mohammad Alkilani MD, Giuseppe Pavone MD, Elvira Puntorieri MD
