Case description

This video is a step-by-step approach to the technique of laparoscopic appendicectomy in general, but more so in the unconventional situation of unexpected appendix mass. Appendix mass is traditionally treated with antibiotics until the mass resolves, and the patient is then brought back to hospital at a later date, usually 2-3 months, for an elective interval appendicectomy. However, in this case, a mass was not possible to feel at the time of admission to hospital, due to marked tenderness and guarding. Fortunately, with careful dissection, it was possible to successfully remove the badly inflamed appendix having managed to safely free it off the surrounding structures forming the mass around it. And at the same time causing no harm to these same structures. Video by U Suleiman, MD,FRCS
