Start with the facts about women and heart disease: more women than men die of heart disease each year; women are less likely than men to receive appropriate treatment after a heart attack; women comprise only 27 percent of participants in all heart-related research studies. Health care providers are trained to assist female patients significantly reduce their risk of heart disease by providing them the information they need about the disease, the knowledge of the questions to ask and the support to make heart-smart changes in their lives.

For six years, the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s Heart of Women’s Health course has helped health care professionals provide better treatment for their female patients in the ongoing battle against heart disease, the number one cause of death and disability among American women.

During this one-and-a-half-day educational offering, experts in the field will debate, discuss and present up-to-date findings on a variety of topics critical to care of female patients including percutaneous valve disease, hypertension and diabetes, cardiovascular disease (CVD) screening initiatives and device therapy in women. The knowledge, awareness and competency gained through the Heart of Women’s Health course will enable participants to focus on the specific needs of female patients and provide superior treatment.
