Objectives:
1. Understand the pathology and mechanism of regurgitation in an aortic valve (AV).
2. Review the interaction between 3 components of AV function: Effective height, geometric height, and free margin length, in a competent and incompetent aortic valve.
3. Review the role of TEE in the scientific assessment of AV, defining all the above components, helping the surgeon with an appropriate repair plan, and predicting the durability of the repair.
