Case description

In this video you can see pathophysiology of urosepsis. A local infection can spread and lead to sepsis if not timely treated. The urinalysis done on 7/14/04 showed the presence of urinary tract infection. Bacteria multiply then begin spreading into the bloodstream, which is sepsis. The bacteria begin releasing endotoxins into the blood stream. White blood cells react to the presence of the bacteria. With sepsis, toxins from bacteria may be released when bacteria enter the bloodstream causing the infection to spread, leading to hypotension and severly affecting other organs. Sepsis causes fluid to leak into the lungs. The fluid decreases the absorption of oxygen. The result in respiratory distress, ARDS requiring mechanical ventilation. With sepsis and fluid leakage in the lungs, less oxygen is carried in the blood. Sepsis causes kidney failure requiring dialysis. Sepsis causes small clots to form in the blood vessels choking off the tissue resulting in Thrombosis and decreased blood supply to the extremities. Lack of blood flow caused ischemia in fingers and toes requiring amputations. Medical Animations by High Impact Graphics. Learn more at HighImpact.com or give us a call at 800-749-2184.
