Case description

In Vietnam or some Asian countries, one of the methods of treating ureteral stones (for fairly large stones) is retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery to remove stones. This method is quite effective and safe, applied to patients without surgical scars in flank, even with urinary tract infections. The reason is that the flexible ureteroscope is still quite expensive, while lithotripsy with a semi-rigid ureteroscope will take a long time, increasing the risk of UTI after surgery.

Retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery is a familiar technique for urologists in our hospital, even with resident doctors.
