Case description

I will use the same spirometry graph in multiple sessions to teach you how to envision the normal and pathological changes in lung anatomy and physiology. Now we can see the normal curve and two others , one for obstructive disease (Asthma) and one for constrictive problem affecting lung capacities (kyphoscoliosis). We see that at the end of the expiratory phase , lung volume is more than zero indicating the residual volume. Air trapping occurs in asthma when air can not be expelled properly due to airway narrowing. This would be shown as higher residual volume.
