Lesson 5 of Biomimetic Dental Course explains the traditional crown preparation. In this video dr Matt demonstrates the traditional preparation technique and principles to explain how traditional techniques require excessive teeth shaving.
The standard crown preparation involves removal of 70-75% of the tooth in order to have the shape and requirement for a crown to be placed. This technique has been used for many years and it does work successfully, but there is a relatively high rate of complications from this procedure long term. With the right techniques, we have better options now that are able to conserve more tooth structure and avoid many of the complications long term. This is called the biomimetic approach and we will review that in the next video of this course.
