Case description

Vasomotor rhinitis is a common cause of watery rhinorrhea which is currently believed to be caused by an imbalance in the autonomic nerve supply to the nasal mucous membranes. Vasomotor rhinitis is characterized by chronic nasal congestion with engorgement of the inferior terminates and by a troublesome profuse clear and watery rhinorrhea which is often stimulated by changes in temperature or by the olfaction of food. Because the "nasal mucus" contains in excess of watery secretions, it frequently does not adhere to the nasal mucous membranes and the result is often a clear watery drip from the anterior nares.
