Case description

The inferior turbinate is the lowest and most anterior of the three scroll shaped nasal turbinates [inferior, middle and superior]. It's anterior border is the first intranasal structure encountered during a rhinoscopic examination. The submucosal layer of the inferior turbinate contains erectile tissue. The status of the nasal mucosa can be inferred from its coloratinn and its size. Normal nasal mucous membranes have a healthy pink colour and appear slightly moist.
