Case description

Gouty tophi are the result of the subcutaneous accumulation of deposits of monosodium urate crystals. These tophi present as painful, skin coloured nodules occurring most frequency on the helix. Tophi are gritty to palpation and the underlying yellow crystals may occasionally be seen through the skin.
