Case description

This is the result of a small piece of ground cerumen which is been placed in a petri dish to which a 10% solution of sodium bicarbonate in water has been added. As the "cerumenolytic" takes effect the brown plug of keratin is broken up and we see that consists primarily of large sheets of desquamated keratin. It is keratin that constitutes the major component of cerumen.
