Case description

In very severe cases of acute otitis media the infection [inflammation] will extend into and through the tympanic membrane, causing an exudate to develop on the lateral surface of the tympanic membrane. Once the infection has resolved, the sexy date dries into a scab or crust on the lateral surface of the tympanic membrane. These are referred to as "crusts". The normal process of migration of the epithelium of the lateral surface of the tympanic membrane will gradually separate these and they will be carried out of the external auditory canal by the process of "migration". Such a crust can be seen separating from the inferior half of this right tympanic membrane.
