Case description

Dysphagia is a term used to describe any problems with chewing and swallowing. It can cause food to go the respiratory tract instead to esophagus. Aspiration is a term used when the food or drink goes into the airways, but the affected person can still breathe and they usually cough. It can be fatal with the amount of inspired material is large. Choking is a term when the food gets lodged in the airways and blocks the airflow. It is an emergency situation and require a Heimlich manoeuvre.
In this presentation you will watch an overview of dysphagia, aspiration and choking with its risk factors, signs and symptoms. You will learn about treatment and prevention strategies. Then you will see a case study, and at the end you will hear some questions and answers related to the topic.
