Case description

Capgras Syndrome, Capgras Delusions, or “syndrome of doubles” is a delusional misidentification condition in which the patient believes that a person (usually a close relative or a spouse) has been replaced by an identical imposter. Such a syndrome may be presented in patients with psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and mood disorders, as well as in neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and brain injury (trauma, vascular). Alzheimer’s disease has been associated with serious behavioral disturbances such as aggressiveness, which may be associated with psychotic symptoms, particularly delusional misidentification phenomena. In this paper, we review the association of delusional misidentification (Capgras syndrome) in an individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
