Case description

Colorectal SILS using a magnet retractor in low anterior resection. Alisan Fathalizadeh, MD, MPH, Emre Gorgun, MD. Cleveland Clinic Foundation. The patient is a 29 year old female nurse practitioner who presented with medically refractory ulcerative colitis. She previously underwent a single incision laparoscopic surgery total abdominal colectomy and presented for a completion proctectomy. Her previous ileostomy site was used for the single incision port. A magnetic retractor facilitated obtaining exposure in the deep pelvis in order to complete the proctectomy. The procedure was completed without issue and the patient had a smooth postoperative course.

Magnetic retractors may be used to facilitate exposure for deep pelvic dissections while eliminating the need for an extra port site.
